. East End Committee - USGBC-LI: U.S. Green Building Council Long Island Chapter

East End

“Think Globally; Act Locally”

The USGBC-LI East End Committee serves the five eastern townships of Riverhead, Southold, Greenport, Shelter Island, Southampton and East Hampton.

Mission: To uphold the Vision, Mission, Challenges, Principles, Goals and Objectives of the USGBC-LI Chapter as it relates to the East End which includes the five eastern towns of Riverhead, Southold, Greenport, Shelter Island, Southampton and East Hampton. Since construction on the East End is mostly residential the East End Committee will emphasize LEED for Homes.

Goals:
Sustainable Cocktails East:
To advocate awareness and education of green building on the East End. The committee will hold regular events such as Sustainable Cocktails East, Clam Bakes and Educational Events on the East End with the assistance and help from the USGBC-LI Chapter to organize such events. The events will be held on the last Thursday of every other month beginning in January.

Climate Change: The East End has 1,200 miles of shoreline located at “ground zero” for climate change issues such as rising sea levels, adverse weather patterns, flooding and wind damage. The committee members seek to participate with USGBC-LI Chapter and USGBC National to address national policy issues on climate change for coastal areas including long term planning for sea level rise, including assisting with USGBC’s involvement in the Common Carbon Metric and integrating carbon accounting in the LEED rating system.
